Free to play – Right and wrong

Free to play comes in different flavors and various types of games. A while ago Dungeon Keeper was released, EA got a lot of heat for their greed. An issue that has since been forgotten it seems, except for fans. Because developers seems to be on that greed train.
Before I go on, there are a couple of key terms that I need to go through. Even if these are obvious, just want to go through them so a potential reader […]

Character modeling & board games pt 3

Boring titles, I know. I’m out of creativity.
Anyway, this week we’ve continued working with out 3D models. We’ve created UVs and started working on textures. So far I pretty much only have flat colors for Quinn, so this is what he’s looking like now:

Not any less creepy than the last time you saw him. I think the lack of eyebrows and eyelashes is making him look freaky. However, I do like his overall color scheme. (He looks […]

Final 3D1 Assignment part 1

Back again, and now I’m going to make a short introduction of the current assignment. We are modelling characters, and I’m modelling this quirky creature created by Charlie Eliasson.

Her name is Askanderiya. A former librarian of library of Alexandria.I’m sadly going to be brief about this too, since I finished the model a week ago or so.

This is the model so far. The model itself is finished, and […]

Year 2

Long time no writing. I have neglected this blog a great deal. I’m bad at blogging. In short. Anyhow. It is my second year at Campus Gotland now, and I’ve finally started with what brought me to Gotland. The 3D course! I’ve been looking forward to this moment a lot. I’ve loved every minute so far, even the ones when I’m having so many software issues and errors I don’t even know how to describe.

Now, we are actually at the […]

Design challenges at Threadless

I am a member at this site called Threadless. And it is amazing! They have design challenges together with well known names and brands. It works like this; you either join a challenge or make a design without a specific challenge in mind. When your design is ready you upload it to Threadless. They will examine if it is up to quality and if it is it will be up for a 10 days voting period. Everyone that is a […]

Week 2 on prototyping

We want to thank all the testers who left us feedback after trying out the first prototype! We have been looking at ways to improve on the game and are progressively working on the movement mechanic to make it feel as good as possible.
(We are also working on some very exciting changes to the magic system compared to the one in last year’s GGC-version and we’re hoping to have that implemented in a few weeks)
Sadly for this week we […]

Character modeling & board games pt. 2

This week we started making heads for our characters! Unfortunately, I had already spent quite some time on my own trying to make a head and as our 3D class progressed I realized I had made it entirely wrong. The face I had made was very simplified and not at all optimized for animating. I had really only thought about making a face that looked good, not one that you could animate.
I’ve struggled quite a bit with trying to make […]

Daily post

A day where i’m not dead tired in the end. Feels good.
Today started off with the same issue we had yesterday popping up again where the moving platform class’ child would not open due to not having a parent class. The reference within the blueprint referenced the parent to the wrong path somehow. our solution to this was removing the child object entirely and putting it’s functionality in the main moving platform blueprint. After this the blueprint works great again.
On the […]

We keep setting up

Since the last blog post we have finished our first sprint, maybe not with flying colors but we came through in the end. On the Friday we discovered that the project was unable to build due to issues with how our version control program writes into some files and because we had made foolish attempts at changing our folder structure which completely destroyed every reference in the entire project. I eventually solved it by creating a new project and copying […]

Lighting Assignment

I posted a painting of a boy and a wolf in a snowy mountain landscape a while ago, I just finished with the lighting of it and handed the assignment in. The snow in general was a really tough challenge, just trying to figure out how the light would react to it. The trees and forest parts were also a big challenge, in the foreground especially for how to make them look detailed when they are covered in snow which […]
