Blog Post 3, a background story

Hey ho, let’s go!

I will take a break from animations and sound in this post.

As our game takes place on the British Isles in a alternative universe, we thought it would be good to have some information about why there are demons and why the mages you play as fights them. So, I took matter into my own hands and wrote a short story, which follows here;

”Long ago, on the island of Albion lived king Duncan along with his queen Anne and their daughter Selena. Together they ruled over the island with pride. Albion had not known war or famine for many centuries, and peace ruled the country.

Selena was a fierce warrior, who travelled the world to learn new ways of fighting. On one of her journeys she came across people she thought was long extinct. Centuries ago there lived a terrible sorcerer in Albion who turned the dead into living, but not as humans. Mages were turned into Asoth, who uses their magic to do evil. Men and knights were turned into  Zagam, a terrible monster made of stone who crushes everyone in sight. Women were turned to Raum, a cunning and fast creature who uses her speed to ram people and causing them gruesome pain.

The people she thought was extinct now stood before her. Two live Mages. Selena thought of how she would be praised by her country for capturing such dreadful men. She claimed them as prisoners of war, and dragged them back to Albion. Their names was Samael and Demiel. Throughout the journey they tried to convince her that they hade been forced to sign a lethal contract with the sorcerer, and that they were actually a peaceful race. During the night she heard them talk about how the sorcerer was back, but she refused to believe it. Since she was a little girl she had heard tales of how the king had cast the sorcerer away, and the country was at peace again, and has been ever since.

But the king did not appreciate his daughter’s gift. His face turned white as he remembered the tales of what the Mages were capable of. They were thrown into the dungeon, and locked away to rot.

As the king went to his chamber that evening, he was met by a terrible sight. The whole countryside was covered with black clouds, with fire burning everywhere and people screaming in pain. He rushed down to the dungeons to confront the Mages, they must be the cause of this. But as he entered the cell, he fell to his knees in shock. Over his darling Selena’s dead body, stood the sorcerer, smiling at him. Right there and then, the king swore to kill every single Mage he laid eyes on. They had brought this monstrosity back, at the cost of this daughters life.

But the truth is, Samael and Demiel had fled their dungeon as soon as they saw the signs of the sorcerers return. They had promised each other to never be the cause of so much pain and misery ever again. Instead, they were determined to stop the sorcerer from haunting Albion ever again.”
