Special Mushroom Models

Hello!

The last of the mushroom models I made. These were the ones that had special functions in the game and had to be animated. One of those I showed in the previous post, so I will go ahead and show that one again along with the others.

 

Bounce

The bounce shroom was the first of the special mushrooms I made. Using the line drawing tool in 3ds max I was able to make the spiral, which I could then apply a plane too using the loft tool, so that the cylinder was formed around it. The one on the far right was done a couple of weeks after the others, so it could stick out of walls.

 

Shrink

The shrink shroom is a shroom top that shrinks when you jump up on it. If you were not quick enough then you would fall of off it as it shrunk. In this case, trying to make something look like it would shrink was rather hard, as that action is better communicated to the player through animation. So it was planned that the shrink shroom would have a small animation where it would shake, giving the player a hint that something was up.

 

Broken

The broken shroom. The upper part would fall to the ground when jumped on. This was not all that well made, as the player could only tell it was broken due to the stem. Since the player is standing on the shroom caps to do the platforming their view would be blocked, so they could not tell wether it was broken or not, therefore making it very unfair for the player.

 

Slimetrap

The Venus Slimetrap, based on the chanterelle.

The point of the slimetrap was that it would close up and swallow the player, as they stood on it. The player would then be moved to a different area, through a tube connected to the slimetrap. This shroom was however cut, as the added animations caused issues with the collider and trigger, which dould not be fixed in time.

 

Puffball

The first one to be cut, the Puffball was meant to explode and throw away the player if stood on it for too long. The part on the right would be the remains left after a particle effect. Due to too many issues with the code it had to be cut.

 

Bounce_Launch

The lastmodel to be cut. This was a mix of the puffball and bounce shroom. The player could place one of the characters on it, and then use another slime to jump on the other end, causing the previous slime to be launched away. Basically like one of these:

So, that was the end for that segment. In the next post I will show the vegetation I made using speedtree.
