Neon Skies – Week 1

First official week of the Neon Skies project is now finished.
During this week I have been working on getting the neon crystals into the game.

It did not work out as well as I wanted, I had some issues getting the maps to work properly and it’s possible that it will be revisited later to get the polycount down. Then I could also work on getting the shape more along what it should be.
The coloring is 100% a single smart material from 3D Coat divided into 2 layers, it was really simple to get something nice. Bottom layer is just the emissive cyan neon and on top of that a layer was added where I told 3D Coat to only place the color (white) in convex areas (as emissive as well). As the only convex areas on it are the edges, it kept the white to the edges, although due to distribution and the settings I used, the white is not perfectly along the edges, giving a stronger sense of it being sort of “fractured.”

For the rest of the week I was working on a bow for the game. I face a lot of technical problems with 3D Coat deleting geometry, but it was fixed later on by reverting back to an earlier version and changing it to voxel mode. Most of the silhouette of it is as it should, but some minor details still need to be fixed and will likely  be done early in the week. The rest of the week will be focused on getting the details done, retopologizing it and then texturing it. As the bow is very important to the game, it has to be slowly polished to a standard that the team can agree on.
