Week 7

Wrapping it Up

Soo, this is our last full week before the deadline of the project next Thursday. We have sat an internal deadline for ourselves on Monday when we want everything to be done, so that we can spend the last couple of days to do all the last minute polish and make sure the game works like we want it to. As project manager, my responsibilities at the moment mostly consist of doing my best to help out where I am needed, might call it last minute panic… Since our group only have one graphic designer I have gotten the privilege to do some changes and additions to our graphics this week, and that is what I will talk about in this blogpost.

One of my tasks have been to do some minor changes to our worm enemy. After it was implemented we realized it has to tilt its head slightly in order to fit the surroundings of the game, otherwise it would look quite ridiculous, staring straight forward into the stone wall. With a head tilt it will look a lot more natural and like the mean worm is staring down our protagonist character, the moth. To create this change I simply cut out the head of the worm and rotated it a bit. Then I added lines and color where needed, to connect the head and the body again.

My second art task was to create what we call light veins. We have added a feature to our game were a dark cave will be lit up by crystals and lights flowing through the cracks in our background texture. This light effect will be triggered by the player who have to collect light from sources that are placed out throughout our level. When enough light has been collected, the “light veins” can be activated. We decided to use the vein idea since we thought it made some sense for the light to appear from the cracks of the stone wall texture that we use.

I have not yet completed the design of the light veins, but I have started off by creating the base lines. The next steps will be to add shadows and highlight to them and lastly even more brightness to really make them glow.
