Blog Post 2/23/17 Projectiles and animations
|
Hello again. Its another week in the development of our game and time for another update about what I have been working on and how I have progressed through it. This week I mainly spent time working on projectiles for the different enemies and player ships.
When it came to the development on a Heavy Enemy, it was shot back and forth whether we wanted one or not. We started under the idea that we did want one. However, as we started putting all the pieces into the game, we decided we needed to increase the difficulty and thus we added a “Heavy” enemy. I worked on the Heavy enemy last week so I felt like I would dedicate my time this week to talking about the projectiles and the animations I did for them. This week I started with the Heavy Enemy attack. I was talking to my designer who had already come up with an idea for the attack, I also thought of my own design for the attack. My idea what the have an energy blade attack that would cut across in front of the heavy enemy like a pair of scissors. His Idea, which is the one we felt like going with, was similar to mine, however, instead of having two blades slice across the ship, they would instead fill up and cause damage when the attack filled up. Now that I think about the attack again, I really should add more frames to it in order to make the animation look more like a build up instead of jumps to different stages of the build up. But that is an issue for me to solve after we see how it looks with the rest of the game.
The next animation I started working on, was the Minor enemy projectile. This was just going to the be a simple visual animation that has no major impact on the game. I drew my main inspiration from the attacks shown in the Design document. I wanted a main projectile in the middle, while having a rotating effect around it. This would add an extra little effect to the attack. I still need to work on it though. The tails for the rotating animations, doing look right, the 2nd and 4th frames should have their tails end in the middle and not on the sides. This is due to the fact that I was not sure how to visualize it. All in all I feel this week is progressing nicely, I have learned a bit of animations and how to visualize them better. I know these blog post are part of our assignment, but I feel like I will continue to create blog posts even after this assignment is over. I feel that this reflection I display is helping me realize what I need to go back and work on more and develop further. |
