Making Board Games
|
This week i have been working on making two different board games for two separate courses. The two different courses are the Advanced Game Design course in which we are going to make a board game and then the Serious Games course in which we are going to make a board game that focuses on a more serious topic. The board game for the advanced design course is more focused on making a complete board game that is balanced and well thought out while the board game for Serious games is as mentioned earlier more focused on a serious topic and isn’t required to be as thought as the other one. For the advanced game design course we started the week by scrapping the idea we currently had as we thought we had done it wrong by starting with an aesthetic so we started over and came up with an interesting movement system which involved rotating cogs. And as it turned out we should have actually started with making an aesthetic so we had to start thinking about that. For the serious game course we came up with an idea for a board game during our Wednesday session. This idea is to make a board game that is similar to battle ships but that will inform the players about leftover mines that are over a great many countries and that kill people each day. More civilians than soldiers that they were meant to kill. As we had some trouble coming up with anything to make a game about this was an interesting idea and the two other group members liked the idea so we decided to continue working on this idea. |
