Board game progress report w44
|
At the beginning of the week we received feedback on the game from one of our teachers. The feedback we got was overall very positive. The only things that was suggested that we could change to improve the game was the cheese tile system (where you flip tiles at the far end of the board to find the cheese). And that we probably should add a feature that motivated the player to hunt for the cheese during the first half of the game, rather than wait for another player to find it and then ambush them. We tried adding separate “item tiles” to the game (such as +/-1 movement or +1 attack) that would drive the player forward towards the cheese-area and give them an advantage over other players when it came to combat. We found that this helped a great deal when it came to the motivation of the players. It also helped to spread the players out on the board, rather than having them trying to find the shortest, most efficient way possible to the cheese. We speculated that the item tiles might be best used in combination with a more open game field to gain more freedom to move and hunt item tiles. We tried making the cheese hidden, by not chowing the other players see the tiles that you picked up, but that completely destroyed the core essence of the gameplay. Instead of chasing the player with the cheese, the players were just aimlessly running around or waited for a random player to run within their reach before they engaged battle with them. There was also a lot of talking between players who tried to find out which of the others had the cheese. These principles might work well in other contexts, but we quickly decided they were not working for us. |
