Final Week of Advanced Game Design
|
So this week is the last week of the course “Advanced Game Design” and we’re basically finished with the board game that we’re presenting tomorrow. All we need to do now is to name the game and polish some elements, like putting descriptions on the cards. During the end of last week was Gamex so half of the group was gone and we didn’t get much done, except yesterday when we did some playtesting with two people from outside the group. They liked the game, which felt pretty good, and I think we have a solid chance at getting a good grade for it. We’re going to get a lot of feedback tomorrow probably, so we need to make to write that down, reflect on what we could have done better and then properly start writing on the Post Mortem which is supposed to be finished this friday. I started a bit on it, and I don’t think it will that much of a problem to write, really. The hardest part is probably trying to explain what part of the project I worked on, since we did almost everything together. I suppose I will probably write just that, that we did it together. What I did work on a bit was the Game Design Document found here, I don’t think I linked it before. I know I haven’t blogged through the whole process but something very much worth mentioning is that we doubled the size of the board last week, and added another D6 for each player (so that everyone uses 2 for movement). It made the game a lot more fun and not as slow as before. We have pretty balanced game rounds and a lot of drama towards the end, players alone against the monster with one life left trying to get out with the talisman etc. We also decided to rename the talisman to artifact or something similar so that it doesn’t remind people too much of the game “Talisman”. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and it’ll be fun to see what everyone thinks of the final version of our game! |
