Post-GGC

So, this ride was amazing, and it feels a bit sad that the development course is over. Don’t think I have been this bummed out about summer soon being here… Anyway.

What are the future plans for Anchored and were will we go from here?

A lot of people have been approaching us and have asked us for a copy of the GGC build. I feel honored by this. All I’ve wanted since starting developing games is to create games that people (and preferably I) enjoy playing and it feels like we have achieved that with Anchored, but we are far from done imo. Before sending out copies to people we have decided to patch some of the bugs that we observed during GGC, and today I’ve been working on fixing some problems we had with the elevator, the beetle spawners, and the ability interaction. I also added tool tips for the abilities’ icons so new players can get an idea of what each ability does. Hopefully we’ll patch the tutorial bug before tomorrow and then we’ll put a download link up on our Facebook page so people can play Anchored during the weekend if they’d like.

Next for Anchored is… I don’t really know. I want to continue working on Anchored, the entire team wants to, but Semih Parlayan and André Bengtsson are going to release their game Frog Climbers (which btw is really really awesome!) during the summer, so they already have some work cut out for them. Me, I’m gonna work at a restaurant for two months during the summer, so my free time will be limited. The others I don’t really know about, but I think they too are gonna work or possibly study.

We have decided in the group that any one can work on the game if they want to but that it is not a requirement, and that development will continue after the summer, during the third and last year at GAME. But here is my dilemma; I might not study my third year at GAME. I have applied for Future Games in Stockholm, and are hoping to get accepted into their Game designing and scripting education next semester. It is my understanding that the Swedish games industry doesn’t really care about a bachelors degree, but are mostly interested in work experience, which makes perfect sense. So it is a bit weird that Uppsala University are so proud of their ability to combine game making with academia, but it probably has something to do with money I think. Not saying GAME is all bad but Future Games seems to provide their students with a lot of work experience, by having more production courses than Uppsala and by providing an internship at a games company. If I’ll go to Future Games next semester some of the other guys in the team will continue development, and I hope that I some how can be involved a little in the development and help out, but that might be a bit too optimistic.

With that said, I don’t know if Future Games will accept me yet, my the future is not set. Either way I know that Anchored will not be left on a shelf to gather dust. To keep up with the latest on Anchored make sure to like our Facebook page and follow us on twitter (which I will set up some time in the near future).

Now, I’m gonna write a report on this entire project which is gonna be super fun… I just wanna make games 😦
