My First Entry – introduction

Blind cave fish

Hiiiiii! I have decided to make this first post a brief introduction to who I am and a summary of what I/my team have accomplished so far in the course Game Design 2 Game Development.

I am a Graphics minor of the Game Design Bachelor Program at Uppsala University Campus Gotland. My main interests are gaming and drawing (duh!) but also cooking and eating! Since a very young age I have enjoyed consuming all kinds of cartoons, comics and other animated media, my main influences being Disney and a looong list of japanese Manga-kas. This might be of interest to some of my readers since I believe these influences will be reflected in several of my coming artworks and posts.

As I am writing this me and my team (Team Ettin) are in the middle of the second sprint of the development of our  first game. We are creating a STG based on the concept doc. ”Depth” created by Team Poltergeist. In Depth you play as a research submarine which is being chased through a underwater cave by a mysterious hostile creature. The Alpha deadline is in one week from today so stakes are high, however we received good feedback on our pre-Alpha meeting with teacher Mika yesterday which implies that we have our game under control so far. I have the role of Lead Artist so it is my job to make the major art decisions and distribute work to myself and our other graphic artist. I have divided the work between us during our sprint planning meetings every week, as well as provided mood boards for all graphic components of the game. I also decided on pixel art as the art style, this was a somewhat daring move considering my non existent experience with pixel art, however, Benjamin (the other graphic) has some prior experience (and he absorbs new knowledge like a sponge) so based on my trust in him I decided to challenge myself. The picture above is my first ever attempt at pixel art and it was created during pre-production. It was made for educational purposes but is also being used in our Alpha as a minor enemy.

I will end this first post here, but I will update again soon to bring you up to speed about my work with Depth!

Biiiiiiiiiie!
