BGP Week 5: Coming out to a friend (or three)
|
This week I’ve been working on a larger event where Sam tells a friend about Nicole for the first time. This is one of the major stepping stones towards coming out to the parents, which is the endgame for the demo we’re making. We decided that Sam’s friends would react to her relationship in a set way, which means their traits aren’t randomized like some of the other characters. This is mostly because it makes it easier to build a dramatic curve, which hopefully makes the game a more engaging experience for the player. Here are a couple of friends Lisa has drawn so far: The friend I decided to begin with is one who isn’t outright homophobic or negative towards Sam and Nicole’s relationship, but they’re still catious and wonders if Sam has really thought this through. They’re worried about their friend getting hurt, though it might come off as if they don’t believe Sam when she says she’s serious about this. The second friend I have begun writing is a lot more homophobic and the player basically has to choose between breaking it off with them or lying to them and saying that they will break up with Nicole. Lastly, I want to write another friend who’s more or less positive towards Sam and Nicole’s relationship, but who is still very politically incorrect. ”So who’s the guy in your relationship?” is a common phrase which I have yet to use in the game, along with ”How do you have sex?” and ”It must be great to never have to deal with a guy.” as well as other equally dumb comments. |
