This week, by comparison to the last one, was extremely productive. We implemented a tutorial level that we had been working on parts for since the beginning, implemented a maze I had started working on in the third week before being rudely interrupted by sickness and last but certainly not least, we implemented the three characters into the game. This was very painless, as our lead coder had been working hard on them the last few weeks. However, this had us adjust the level since not all of the characters had the same move set anymore. Beyond that, there was some polish added here and there so that when we showed the game off at the great play test on the Friday, we were proud of what we could give the crowd.
The feedback we got could be summarized thusly: We love the dubbel jump (to the point that we don’t generally like to play the other characters) and sticky needs a fix of the control.
We already knew that the controls was a problem, but didn’t have time to fix them. The current broken controls work in this way: when the player is in the air, and in contact with at stickable surface, the have to press the stick key Note that they can not hold down the key beforehand. They then jump free of the surface by pressing the stick key again. This was problematic since you usually jump with the jump key.
What we are going to change it to is that you can hold the stick key to stick. press it again to fall down or press the jump key to jump off the surface. This will most likely fix the problem.
As for the dubbel jump, if they want it, they can have it. We will test giving all the slimes dubbel jump, and then give hoppy a power jump, where they stand stil for a moment then blast of with the power of three jumps. This will give them the same ability in contrast to the others (vertical movement with a relatively short range that the others cannot), while still giving them less utility than the others. The problem might now be that glidey is more powerful than the others, but perhaps a faster degredation of flight will help. Testing will begin next week when our programer is back from a short vacation.
