First two weeks.

Hello!

The two weeks since the course started have been filled with learning scrum and some amount of drawing. I did recognize the word scrum, seems I used it before. All though that was a long time ago and I hardly remembered anything about it. We in the group have been trying fill the back log with everything we could think of that would be in the game. It will probably turn out that we missed some of the components. Something that I still feel is tricky is estimating the risk and estimated work hours for something. That may be the point of using it though, to get a grasp of how long stuff takes to finish. The risk of not finishing anything for art we felt was low. Code on the other hand was a bit trickier to establish since they have not done this particular game before.

We choose the game Magic Writer from the coding perspective, it felt like it did not really matter what game we choose in terms of art difficulty. I have been acting as producer for this, holding the meetings, directing work flow and setting up the sprint for the week. It was hard to distribute a fair workload, everyone has different skill sets and something might take longer or faster to finish depending on who does it. Coders had to help me with distributing their work because I had no idea what needed to be done, how hard it would be or how long it would take. We have finished quite a bit of the games art. My job when it comes to drawing is the objects that the wizard will throw on the monsters – such as skeletons, fire ants and pizza slices. I am also QA for the work the other artist does on the wizard, the monster and the background. We are sticking with the original concepts idea about it being humorous and cartoony art.

Another thing we found hard was coming up with a balanced list of items for the game. There needs to be an equal amount of the different types: Alive+hard, Alive+Soft, Dead+Hard, Dead+Soft. Alive + hard we felt was the most difficult one to find objects for, and the total number of game objects we can implement will most likely be restrained by this combination. We also have to keep in mind how fun it is to type a word, if the only words we have are like ant and tree, it might become boring fast.

Now I am off to draw me a Panda. Cheers
