The Beginning of the map

So the first week of the project I have worked on the basic layout of the map as well as the first plants and trees.

First of all I spend a day drawing sketches and using the work I had done prior to the course start. The limits that the map had was 1. It was going to be a flying island and 2. It was not going to be a large map.

Beside that I was free to try pretty much what I wanted, which gave me a lot of freedom. The first sketch of the map we have now, looked like this. Where the map consisted of one big landmass in the middle and some parts that had broken loose.  The end result ended up looking somewhat the same.

When I had a basic plan for the level, I jumped into Unity and started using their terrain editor. One problem we quickly noticed and honestly somewhat had forgotten about was we could not really make flying islands with their editor as you can only lower or raise terrain, not move it sideways. We tried looking for a couple different solutions before simply deciding to hide the bottom of the map with clouds.

I spend some time creating the basic shape of the level and it ended up looking like this.  Now this is not a very good picture of the level, however we can see how one of the mountains stayed on the map and one of the other was turned into a crater.  The islands on the side remained.15cdd1_e635f4a62fc0456988209f06f4f53708-mv2 (1).png

Now as you can see I also started putting in trees and lush into the environment. I did this by using hand drawn textures and then using the unity tree editor to create several different trees and plants.

By the end of the week, we had the minerals created by another artist. Beside that I used the same tree textures, mostly the same leaves and created a simple start for our environment.15cdd1_f5fd7ed2ba034576be1c659ba25bcd93-mv2 (1).jpg
