Alpha, Play testing. Week 3.
|
What? So last week i talked about how important taking notes and documenting are. I would like to continue a little bit on that road. This week we did have an open playtesing of all the games that was beeing created in class. Our game, Brun witch burn, got played by approximately twenty people. With this came a lot of feedback, good and bad. My job was to take notes try to see what people likes and disliked. We only had one question in mind, How can me create a better game? How? So how did we do the play testing and how did we take notes of the feedback we got? So the play testing took place in class room B25. Every team had been assigned a seating with at least two laptop spots. We choose to NOT compile our game but rather keep it in unity during the testing so that we could try out diffrent numbers on how quick enemys run, how often logs spawns or how much health you have. The main thing we got out of that was that we manage to fix the log spawning in the classroom instead of having to take notes of the problem, meet up and then try to fix the problem. I took notes via a notebook rather than a servey. A lot of teams had some sort of survey thing but i choose not to have it because of three reasons… Why? …Boring, Follow up questions and its impersonal. And what do i mean with this? Boring: How many times have you done a survey and really felt ”Wow this was great, i made so much impact on this”? Did i hear you say none? yeah… Follow up questions: If i do the survey with say five questions like a lot of the teams had, you will miss out on some feedback. A lot of teams tried to solve this by having a ”Other” section were you was to fill in the ”Other things” that was not in the first five questions. This may result in people leaving that blank. With follow up questions in real life you get a chanse to avoid that ”other” field to be left out blank. Impersonal: I however did a small interview with every person playing the game. This gave me a chance to see the person face to face as the person gave me the awnsers i could see in the persons face if it was possitive or negative or how much it really affected the game. I could get personal and make the people awnsering and giving feedback valuable. ![]()
