Week 3 -Adding feedback to the player
|
Week 3 has also come to an end and it feels like it just began! First off I’d like to start with a quick introduction to what I was working with the past week for those that have not read that post. Last week was the alpha presentation which meant that we wanted to have as many assets implemented in the Unity project as possible. This resulted in me, the Art director of Team Kraken to primarily focus on implementing all the different art assets our group had come up with to that point. This week however we started discussing what we felt was necessary to have implemented during the upcoming two weeks in terms of artwork and other areas based on the feedback that we got during our alpha presentation. We came to the conclusion that most of the stuff already implemented was good and that we should carry on to refine those things and build upon them. Whilst my fellow art compadre was working on adding leaves to our branches I took on the task to add a visual feedback to the player once the power up was activated. This was something that we wanted from the beginning but up to this point had been on the low priority list. For the Beta deadline however we felt like adding feedback to the player was a must, this of course based on feedback we had gotten earlier. So I started thinking of how something like a visual representation could look. I rather quickly stumbled upon the idea that it could be particles and light coming out of the main character to show a sense of “empowerment”. I did a lot of sketching and test animations but nothing seemed to look right.
I was wondering if I had perhaps taken the wrong approach and would have to rethink my ideas. Luckily we have team members to talk ideas with and provide feedback which in this case was super helpful. They all liked the way it was heading so I decided to keep working on it and refining the animation. After studying the different sketch animations I took the parts that I liked in each different animation and combined those aspects into one final animation. I ended up with a pulsating effect coming from the soul of the character pulsating outwards providing light around the character.
Once the animation for the particles was done I added it on top of a moth animation placeholder to see how it might look and to my surprise it actually looked really good. The next step will be to implement the animation into Unity. That will be done the upcoming days however. ![]() That is it for me this week though! Stay tuned for more information regarding the project. #5SD064 |
