This week I have been working on yet another enemy, but this time it was a bit different from last time. This time, I did not do the concept myself, and now I am going to talk about how that worked out for me. At first we were two graphic artists in my group. Unfortunatley our number got a bit shortened when one of us left, and now I am here with the rest of our work. I really do hope everything is goingn to work out amazing for the other one in the future. I have previously been working on two other enemies; one elephant and one bull. The last enemy (the fire-enemy), were supposed to be worked on by the other artist. Since she never got to finish the sprite for this one, that was my main task this week. The concept art for this enemy was already made, and I did not really have enough time to change it too much. We are soon supposed to have our beta ready, and our game needs at least three enemies. I had already agreed that a bird was a nice change from the rest of the spirit-like creatures that I previously made, and as lead artist I made the descision that it was fine to keep the bird. ![]() This is the concept art that my work is based off. Made by Nelly Lindbom.
Even though the concept looks great, I made some changes in the look by making it less complicated and more in the style of previous enemies (as you can see in the right hand menu). However, during this process, my tablet stopped working, so I haven’t yet been able to finish with all the colours that I want it to have. Up next for me is to finish the colours, and then I will make the animation even better. I have started animating it, but the process is much harder when you don’t have a tablet. For now I have managed to solve it with my mouse and managed to get pretty straight lines anyway, but this does make everything take much longer than I expected. This is how it looks like for now anyway, and I am happy that it does look like the same artstyle as the previous enemies, with the angles and lineart. The colour is just a filler for now, and will get more desaturated so that it looks more “evil”, but I will also try to make it look like it is on fire. ![]() |
