Making of the main character

My group Shadavar decided on making the game Selfish. I have been working on creating the main character for our game, Stephen, in Photoshop. It has been a bit of a struggle, with the early concepts not being to the liking of the team. The first version was very happy and cute, similar to Flounder from “The Little Mermaid”, but turned out to be a to be too bland and not really distinguished enough. In the next version I tried to give him more personality and make him stand out. I made him have more expressive facial features and also added rough coloring to give an idea on how he would look, but he ended up looking too mean. Since we still liked the design, we converted him into an enemy instead . At this point I was having a hard time with ideas and  felt quite unsure on how to proceed, so I decide to consult with the art leader of our project. From that we got the idea to think small and cute but still angry. We had the idea of taking inspiration from baby Dory (Finding Dory) in mind but draw in the same style as the last design. This turned out to be a success and our final version of Stephen was born. Yay! ^^/

At this point we had the concept of how Stephen would look and I just had to make him look nice and polished.

The colors would also have to revised and ended up being way more basic then the original concept was since he would be very small in the game so details wouldn’t be able to be seen and might make it tiring for the eyes.
At this point I made sure that I had the fin that would eventually hold the gun was in a separate layer so that we could import them as different files and add the gun with the fin so it would look more natural. I realized that my images was way to big so I had to resize them so to not take up as much space and to look nice in unity.

Me and my group is happy with how he turned out and have tried using him in unity and it looks really nice.
