Build orders and Starvation

We have Switched around some thing in the UI and added a build order to make sure that players build what we want them to. At least to some extent, we want players to build buildings vital to their progression in an as linear fashion as possible to make sure that players experience what we want them to when we want them to.

Doing this in an open ended, RTS game has proven difficult as we both want to give players that feeling of being able to do what they want while at the same time nudging them into doing what we want them to do. We did this by locking building we didn’t want them to build at the start only giving players one option, this then lead to one other option which in turn leads to more options etc.

We also elaborated on our starvation system. Now each settler will consume a set amount of food within a set interval. Food is now represented by individual food pieces that are removed as settlers eat and added as food is turned in at the storage. Once all food pieces are consumed the bar will switch to starvation mode which is a bar that ticks down over the course of a minute, once it reaches zero all settlers will take heavy damage until they die.
