Enemy 3 death
David Isaksson Grp.9

So here we go again with the death animation. After iterating our first version of our enemies due to not fulfilling our vision for the game, we have had to start all over with all the animations that we had for enemy 1, enemy 2 and enemy 3. We have done shooting and basic flying for all the enemies and this week we had to get the death animations done in order to make it to the Beta dead line.
We decided to do them all over because of the aesthetics and since we were running low on work (that is us graphic designers, the programmers are drowning in work)

So death animation of enemy 3.
It is an animation made in photo shop and made into a sprite sheet using ”glue-it”.
The animation is a 10 frame animation.

-Death animation for enemy 3-
enemy-3-V2
I have made three different types of death animations to give our team something to choose from (they are made with our enemy 1 as example).
The  first one was a simple explosion radiating from the middle of the ships, and removing the ship as it makes its way across the ship. (As seen below.)
v2-enemy1
The second one was like the one seen above but with fragments being seen in the middle as the chock wave moves out.
These were both a bit boring, but we liked the speed of them. so we chose to go with picture 1 and making it a quicker animation with fewer frames than what i had first produced.

So i started with a small explosion drawn as a white shape that was immediately followed by a dark purple shape with the same size as the white one this creates a contrast which  makes the animation pop more.
Then i made the green shock waves as a growing circle with a decreasing thickness over five frames until it fades out.
The debris was made by gradually cutting up and moving the parts away from the starting point of the explosion, using the lasso tool and the move tool.
The pros to this version is that i could make the explosion look more dynamic.
The cons are it takes longer to animate, it is a bigger risk that it looks weird and it is a lot harder to make it look the way i wanted it to look. Oh, and it also looks like burning paper which i wasn’t ALL that happy with..

But the end of the day I am pretty happy with the result, and i really hope it will look ok when we implement it into the game.
