GameDev Xmas Challenge – Day 4: Kinda winnable!

The game is winnable now! And this time I also have some screenshots.

Today I fixed the bugs and connected the last dots to make the game winnable! You can now win by taking over sections accordingly, and a placeholder message displays when a player has won. The core gameplay is now sort of complete; I still have to work on conditions for draw, both for a section and the board as a whole. There is also no way to restart the game at the moment, and of course there is missing vital UI aspects such as an actual start menu with options and stuff.

A fresh board with only one move made.
Game ending in a draw.
A player has won!

Seeing as the game is in a somewhat functional state now, I decided to try it out on my tablet and play against my sister, which was one of the reasons I chose this project in the first place. Huge success, no discernible bugs or problems except for the “back” button being a tad too small and hard to press.

Playing the first working build!

The next move is to hammer out the last few vital functions and then start to work on the juice-factor. At this point I’ll probably need to scratch out the design plan for the game. I have a few gamemode ideas and cool mechanics, such as being able to draw your own marker. This project at a glance might seem that it’s already finish up but this is just the beginning!
