Week 8, Game Design
|
Another week has passed by really quickly. I am still working on creating and finding sounds for our game. This week my sprint plan is fixing a sound effect for the dryads walk animation, for planting a seed, plant unit 1 skill effect, plant unit one death, enemy unit 1 skill effect, enemy unit 1 death. The sound effects are way easier to find than making the level 1 soundtrack which I am still working with as well. Al tho this week I spoke to the lead programmer and asked him what was worth doing since he knows what we will have ready for the beta. Unfortunately we still don´t have somewhat of a complete game due to the lack of programmers and different skill levels in our group. This resulted in me only having to fix one single track for level 1 instead of one in three different stages. We still have the fail and winning soundtracks. (See previous blog post) I think the whole group is struggling a bit after coming to terms of realizing that we wont have the manpower to make the game that we wanted in the first place. We know that it is the scrum that matters as well as understanding how to use the method and why. So we try to focus on working as if we were doing a finished game with everything implemented even tho we might not make it. This is after scaling it down to something we thought was more realistic within our time frame. The problem is trying to work as if the game could be something great and to keep the motivation up. But it is not worth feeling bad about since we soon get to move on to the Theme Park project, and we do not want anyone to work themselves into their own graves before that. Anyway, I am still using the music program fruity loops to put together music because that is the program I could get most help with. Al tho I mostly have sound effects this scrum which I find royalty free on different websites. It is not as easy as one would think considering the sound has to be just right and fit the theme. I want the dryad to have a settle little “swoshing” sound since she is not walking but floating across the ground. The planting seed is something more like a “dirt” sound. When our plants fight the enemies the sound can not be like metallic-like, that would not make sense considering that they are flowers. So depending on the plant skill the sound will be fitted thereafter. For example one plant is snapping with its mouth and another one freezes the ground to slow enemies. So for those plants there would be a snapping sound and a frosty sound for these two examples. |
