Sprite Sheet for Magic Writer
|
Hello! So me, myself and group 3 have been working on the game Magic Writer. My main job these first couple of weeks have been to make all the objects that the wizard will summon and throw on the enemys. I tried to follow the style guide that the lead art put together. I got the line thickness and where to put the shadows from the guide – but not much else. So the color scheme I had to figure out myself by putting them on the background to see if they fit. Few colors were used and I tried capturing comic and happy expressions on the suitable object, since the game is suppose to have comedic side to it. We also got the tip early from our scrum master to use the power of 2, so we drew within 256*256. We changed our design recently from the original objects to new ones. So there are no longer items that are hard, soft, dead or alive. Instead we have alive, dead, cold or hot because we felt that they made more sense after playtesting our prototype. We also changed the monsters to have the same properties as the objects. Some objects that I had made did not really fit any of the new properties, and I had to make a lot of new ones. Some objects I drew over to make them look hot, like for example the frying pan that I set on fire. Coming up with cold objects seemed hard at first but you can take items that are representing cold as well. For example a penguin might be a warm blooded animal but it represents cold. I feel that estimating work time on objects can be a bit tricky, a simple object that I feel is successful on the first try might only take about half an hour. On the other hand, if I am drawing something a bit more tricky and it takes several tries to make something that I am satisfied with it can take between one and two hours. I also started drawing when we started the first 2D course, so my experience is not that vast. I also made the sprite sheet from scratch without any assisting program, except the built in grid system in photoshop. Scaling is also a bit tricky, should all the items be the same size or should you see a noticeable difference between objects of obvious size difference in real life. I might also redo the heads and have entire bodies instead, might look better in the game. Anyways, enjoy . |
