Defining MISS Glasscock

At the time of writing. two weeks have passed since I regaled you of the challenges inherent in designing a character despite not really knowing the first thing about drawing, Last week we discussed perspectives and the less you know about my performance in that regard the better. Suffice to say I drew a 10 meter car that cruised down the grid from Tron being chased by a WWI biplane with wings that took a huge dump on the laws of avionics. This week I got to return to my character concept and now the time had arrived to make a turnaround and a full detail construction of the character. It was my teacher that liked the female version of my character best and encouraged me to pick her for further development. I was quite hesitant to attempt it since designing a female character with merely the most basic knowledge of drawing felt quite intimidating. I’ve always found the female form difficult to draw correctly, there’s such elegance and such a wealth of lines. Stocky musclebound hulks in spandex are so much easier. In taking the character further I also got to write a bit about her backstory and make her more alive. I’ll admit I enjoyed that part more than drawing, comfortable territory as it was. I’ll share the bio document too at the bottom of this post. I spent 4 days locked inside my home drawing, barely sleeping and eating only the foodstuffs that didn’t require heating. As I’m writing this I can’t really feel the fingers on my let hand from grabbing the wacom-pen for hours on end, day after day. Seriously wacom, your pens are awful for prolonged sessions, needs some more support for the thumb. I’m really proud of the construction page… Not so much of the turnaround. The former took so much time to do that I didn’t have all that much time left for the turnaround when I finally got to it. The most glaring problems with it, to my eyes at least, is that the neck is too long and that the hips and thighs look a bit odd, especially on the frontal. Getting my speed up is my number one priority right now as these two pictures took about 30 hours to complete. Some of that gets blamed on photoshop though since it keeps messing with me by having unknown functions screw up my flow. I’ll freely admit that this past week has been the worst yet for me. I knew that going into this class practically as a beginner would be rough. But the sheer load of it really got to me at one point. I haven’t seen daylight since thursday and I know that things probably aren’t going to let up. But I can also see that I’ve made some progress these past three weeks an I’m hoping that I’ll be able to evolve fast enough to get ahead by the end of the course. I’ve always been a fast learner and combined with being stubborn as a planetary orbit that might just be enough. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
