The Markham Chronicles

So two weeks ago me and four others got together to answer a challenge.

Create a game through a random plot generator and draw up a sales document.

Our result was a point and click adventure for tablets that we’re really sad wont be made into a real game anytime soon. Because despite being made by rolling some virtual dice and interpreting some random images on said dice, the concept turned out really awesome.

What did we learn?

The sales document should have been shorter, marketing and statistics made it drag and in a real life pitch I would have kept the marketing and accompanying information in a separate folder to be handed out after the presentation.

It would have also helped to have more time with the project, as it is we worked as much as we possibly could given the timeframe of 5 days to completion. However much of the time was spent reading up on target demographics and audience profiles. This is something that with time will be much faster since the information sourced for one project will likely be useful in later endeavours as well.

Randomly generating game concepts is actually a pretty interesting way of getting a project off the ground fast.

The sales document is a pptx-file and may look weird in anything other than office2013.

The team consisted of myself acting as lead designer

Erik Öberg as lead character designer

Matilda Nagy as UI-designer and character design consultant

Filip Frandsen as lead concept artist

Anton Classon as lead programmer and puzzle designer

I’d like to extend a huge kudos to all of my team mates, they’re all people I’d hire in a heartbeat. Hard working, easy going and full of great ideas.
