Story ‘Intro’

This week, I’ve been working on an intro ”cutscene” which we will play when you play the game for the first time. We wanted some sort of intro to give the player a sense of context. It is supposed to answer the questions ”What am I doing? Why am I here? Who am I?”.

The first stage was figuring out how much we wanted to tell the player. What can be told through the environment? What can’t?
Theodor made a few concepts and wrote down some ideas which we discussed a few days ago. The original ideas looked like this:

Introduce the Game World:

  • The agent is standing infront of Langley and is looking up towards the top.

Introduce the Reason for the Darkness of the Levels:

  • A picture of a breaker box with one wire cut.

Introduce Who You Are:

  • The agent leaps into the room from a open window. (Same agent as in the win screen) (Maybe feature the hammer and sickle to show the origin of the agent.)

Then, after some discussing between us, we added two more:

Introduce the Reason for the Agent being on top of the building.

  • The agent starts to scale the buidling with super-suction cups.
In the next shot, the agent accidentally drops one of the suction cups. This is the reason for him not being able to climb down the buidling after he has stolen the documents.

Introduce What You Just Have Done:

  • A open safe i the room of the Director. (If CIA isn’t on the side of the building, then maybe as a sign on a table). The agent could be holding a file to indicate that the files have been stolen.

Below is the concept Theo created for the last image:

When we had decided what we wanted to do; I went to work, looking up some scenary online to get some ideas on how everything should look.

I started out with making the first one; The one where the agent looks up at the CIA Building. Below is the result, at the time of writing this:

Sekvens1

Sure; The lighting on the roof is VERY hard. A bit too hard, in my opinion, so that’s what I’m going to fix next.

Here are two more, these are invery early stages of development; Nothing is finished:

Sekvens2-1 Sekvens2-2

I like the feeling of the wire being really tense, but I don’t really like the pespective I used. I might change this then I continue working upon it.

Thank you for reading!
