Ninjaness, New goal and Catch the kitty game!
|
hallu! Today has been a rather slow but fun day. The day started of with going down to school to try out our ninja clothes that we can buy as our school programs overalls. So i now have a Ninja costume/overall on its way to me! yay. Now all i need is a Bear costume and i am all set! After that we had a lecture about how to study. It was interesting and even though most of the things was quite obvious i still think it was good that we had it. The sad part was that we were not that many people that attended the lecture. They didn’t miss much but i still think it would have been good to have been there. Now to the fun part. I started to play around a bit in Game Maker ( http://www.yoyogames.com/studio ) today! After i learnt the real basic, like what you need to make the game ( a room, some sprites and some objects) it was quite easy and fun to work with. But ofcourse like the person i am i had to think and make big at once. You know fuck the tutorial and basics lets dive right in there! So i thought of a game that in its core is a simple tag game. You are the Character Tomas and you are supposed to catch the cat. I am also thinking of adding another character that runs after you and kills you if it collides with you. So because i am a graphic student i started to make the sprites ( Sprites is the art work you could say. The graphics. In game maker it is mostly pixel art as well.), The setting of my game was an apartment so of course i had to have a kitchen with a sink and a stove ( will be adding refrigerator and freezer later), A dining area with a table, a sleeping area with a bed and a bathroom with a sink, a toilet and a shower. I had to make walls so i made a vertical wall and a horizontal wall as well as walls that can connect the vertical and horizontal walls together. This took around 3 hours because i have never worked with pixel art ever so it took me a while to get into it. I didn’t finish all the sprites i wanted in the game because i wanted to start making the game playable! So i made all the sprites into objects and then put them in the gameroom/gamespace (where the game is played in. All you see as the player is the gamespace). This was kinda like doing a puzzle because gamemakers gameroom has a grid system. But it went rather easy. The only hiccup was when i added the cat and the player. you wouldn’t see them because they were behind the floor tiles that i had made. But after some help from a friend of mine i could fix it ( it was really easy of course all you had to do was add depth to the floor tiles. YAY for me!).
This is how the game looks now. I will try to upload the induvidual sprites later when i am not in bed writing, so you can see more clearly what i have done! So after a while of making so the player would move with the arrow keys and that the cat would run around in my apartment i finally had a game that you somewhat could play! Then i thought to myself “all this needs now is a score system and then i might actual have a game!” Well here is where it all kinda fucked up. Adding score was a bit trouble sum and when i finally thought i had fixed it the hole game fucked up badly. the cat and the player was not in the game and some of the walls were missing to. So i deleted that, packed my shit and went home to make food and cry in a corner… Just joking but i did scrap the idea for the moment and went to add some things instead. I will though try to have the game somewhat finished in till the end of the week and will most likely post it here. That will also be my new goal! I will try to make some kinda of game each week or longer if i feel that i want to put more time down in the game. But i want to keep it simple so i will learn the basics and then maybe have bigger projects later! Well i think that is all i have for today! and sorry for spelling and bad grammar and what not. I am bad with that because i am not checking my work that well and I am sleepy. Well i am off to bed now so sleep well and a good day Mr.NinjaBear! |
