Started with coding

So last week I started on the coding process as I completed the documentation part. The task I started with next was a score manager that would keep track of the points, and then being saved to a file; in this case a text file. Every time the program is run 100 points are added to the text file. This means that the score is saved in the text file and always being kept there until the next time the […]

Project “Haunted Light” 2014-02-27 Stone Walls

It’s Thursday and yet another blog post! Project “Haunted Light” (former name “Bloody Badgers”) is still going strong and we in group 5 are getting ready for our next milestone, which is the BETA version of the game. One completed artifact of my many other started ones I had for this week’s sprint is the stone wall tile set, which I will talk about on this post. Jonna, our group’s very talented lead artist, is the one behind the game’s […]

Some opinions about how out game is designed

Well this is a hard one to find something to write about, because I’ve been sick for a couple of days and when I’ve been here and worked I’ve pretty much only been working on the Customization screen, and I don’t really have anything interesting to say about that again. What I can say though is that a lot of it works right now.
So I’ll take this time to write a bit about my opinions on the game-design and what […]

The Morker

Originally we planned to have two types of ranged enemies in our game. The first, labeled “the Workers” were supposed to stand faced against the wall, not noticing the player until they were attacked. When this happens, they would swarm the player and try to shoot her down. The second type of enemy was to be a flying moth character, that would fly around in random patterns, making him a difficult target, while at the same time firing down at […]

Project “Bloody Badgers” 2014-02-20 Running Animation

Time really does fly by. It’s Thursday once again, and Thursdays means new blog post. Since I’ve been having trouble with scheduling all my schoolwork this week there won’t be a whole lot of content for me to blog about. I did finish some, which I will talk about now, but sadly not as much as I had planned during this sprint. I will have to continue working with that during the rest of the week instead.
Amongst the things I had […]

The Wasp, the Warror, the Goon

The first Enemy you will face in our game, is the unit known only as ‘the Warrior’. He is your basic melee attacker, and will walk up to you and try to strike you down.
Since all our enemies are supposed to be bugs, we did not have too many different options to chose for the warrior role. In the end, it came down to either a moth, due to their habit of eating clothes, or a wasp, due to their […]

Completing the GDD

In this 2nd post I will write about the final game design document, and the difference between the first one and the second one I wrote about in the previous post. Note that both are in english. Why I didn’t wrote (or write) anything in swedish when I have the choice to is because I can reach to more people if it is in english. Since working in the gaming industry can have international people as well, it might as […]

My artifact, the Game Design Document

So in this new course we’re making another game and will be writing one of several artifacts that you’ve been working with. You should answer the questions what/how/why? and basically reflect on what you’ve worked with. It has to be 400 words minimum and deadlines are on thursdays and on top of that one member of another group will comment your blog post with at least 200 words. Anyway enough talk already let’s get started!
So what have I done and […]

University Projects: Escape 2.0

Hey everyone!
Started on a new university project (Surpriiiiiise!) and we are supposed to be keeping a weekly blog up so I guess I will start here. In this project my role is that of a Designer and Artist. I fill in niches and help getting bigger parts done most of the time right now though.
So this week my work has been separated into 2 different artifacts if we could say that. My job is to finish both the elevator pitch […]

Finished the R-kanoid game project

Now everything is completed, from the game to the report! But the journey hasn’t ended here, I’ve still a lot more to learn but this gave me a good insight of how it’s like to work with just another person and finish creating a game. I’m still nervous as if I’m actually going to pass this course or not, but I’ve done my best even though it could be better and I’ve tried my all but still…

Spelprogrammering – Assignment – 18

Spent most of the night writing my report. Although it’s almost four or five pages long already, I’m still not certain it’s written in the way Tommi had intended.
I’m not sure if I should fiddle with the code any more, as I’ve pretty much come to a full stop when it comes to my current abilities. I might as well just spend more time perfecting the report, and making sure that it’s in tip-top shape.

Spelprogrammering – Assignment – 17

Tic-tac-tic-tac. Time’s running out.
I’ve been hunkered down and working all day. I’ve realized that I’m pressed on time, so I’ve given up on some features in favor of others. For example I created the most basic GUI of all time in the bottom left corner that changes colour based on the amount of lives you have. I also added a “GAME OVER” screen, that shows up for three seconds until the game restarts itself.
Inadvertently, it’s causing memory leaks, which origin […]
