Particle effects

One week left until Gotland Game Conference! Since I had finished my assigned work, but we still needed particle effects, I took the responsibility to fix that. These are the effects I needed to do:

Attack projectile
Attack trail
Attack when hitting target
Robots when being Stunned
Stun Idle for Robots
Robots when being Fused
Steam for the environment
Dust cloud for environment

This is the first time that I have ever worked with particle effects and it was a bit tricky to get the hang of it. I have […]

Nya Horistonter: Speldesign i Snabb Utveckling

För att bli en bra speldesigner gäller det att greppa den senaste tekniken – men också att utvecklas som konstnär.
PÅ utbildningen i speldesign i Visby råder en kreativ miljö, där skissblocket och gitarren har sin givna plats bland datorerna.

Nya Horisonter visited the department and published a three page spread, interviewing our students and staff.

Big Game Project (week5)

My focus in big game project this week has been the animations of the enemies for our alpha presentation. I continued on the Pikeman front animation which I started with last week and as I added frames I noticed how blurry the arms, legs and pike became after rotating and moving them, which added extra work since I had to clean up the worst parts.

I made one side at the time and begun with the front and the back. When […]

Rubber Crossbow

This post is a bit late, we finished this project a few weeks ago, and I’m now working on an entirely different project that I hope to write some about in the future. However, I still wanted to post this final artifact report/description thing that I wrote. Good day.
For the main characters primary weapon, we chose a crossbow that fires needles. I didn’t put that very much effort into designing the the looks of the weapon, I simply went for a […]

Project Totem Update #2

Totemic Banner by Camilla Jacobsen

Update
Hi again!
The project is finally entering full production as off today. We’ll be having a stand-up scrum meeting, detailing the plan for our alpha build. The group has been working on defining content, building frame-works for said content and creating place-holder (first drafts) animations and graphics.
As we’re entering production, we’ve got our focus set on making sure that the Alpha covers our core-mechanics, level-structure and most importantly, seeing as how we’re creating a theme park […]

Project “Totemic”

Concept art by Nils Wennergren

Theme Park
We’ve been tasked with creating a Game for a course called Theme Park. This involves building a game cabinet and then design original and interesting controls for said cabinet. The games we’ll be creating during this course will be presented at the GGC (Gotland Game Conferance) in Visby, Sweden. Croikey!
Totemic – Our Game
Alright, so we got together, and managed to salvage three people from the last group, Myself (The lead designer), Camilla Jacobsen (The […]

3D3, real-time 3D

The Big Game Project has already begun and most of my time goes into developing our game. But before I’ll begin writing about that journey I’ll sum up what I’ve done in the previous 3D course.
Our first assignment was to create two tile able textures, to get some challenge I decided to go with realistic grass and a brick wall texture. I had most problems with the grass texture because I did didn’t want the texture to look to boring […]

Level Design, Part 2

When we got our new assignment the teachers decided to put everyone in new random groups of two, at first I thought it would be interesting to hopefully get to work together with someone I hadn’t worked with before. But as usual I’m not that fortunate when it comes to getting good group members..
Our assignment was to choose a multiplayer online game and analyze its levels and answer what level are the most popular and why. The first game we […]

Something different

I did not know I would ever get to say this, but I am actually running low on work. The last few weeks the amount of work I had to do have been getting less and less. I am afraid I will have to dig up something old to write about next week.
Anyway, this week I did something a little bit different, I made the sketch of the background for the options menu. I do not usually do very good […]

Barely any coding this week :/

Well guess what, I won’t write about a single artifact this time either because since the engine was finished nothing have taken enough time simply being complex enough to write 400 words about it really…
No one in our group is motivated enough to work on this game anymore so we decided that our goal is to finish our game this week and leave the two remaining weeks for the reports. So this resulted in a bunch of smaller things that […]
