Bomberman Clone, Setting up everything and getting the engine ready!

Hello readers, in my current course “Spelprogrammering I” I have been given an assignment to remake an old game.  The game I have chosen to remake is Bomberman. I will also be trying to implement online multiplayer. So be sure to follow through my journey of discovery!
Some of the first thing I did was trying to get a clear idea how I would progress with coding the game. I started by making small notes of different classes and functions I would need for […]

Using maps and iterators instead of for-loops

These coming blogs will detail my coding efforts and my work to create a working clone of the Legend of Zelda for the NES, using SDL and C++.

To start off with , I needed some way of inputting information and managing that input. We had been offered a template for the general setup of this inputmanager  in our Arkanoid clone project, but as I both wanted to try to learn new things and try different approaches, some changes have been […]

Week 4, Hey… you got something on your face, let me clean it up!

So this week we had to clean up our old character from week 2, and draw clean line-art. We also had to make a turnaround of the same character. This time I was a bit slow though. And didn’t do my best work as I had to rush it in in time. I was really disappointed of myself and decided to re-clean both of them on my free time.
Here you can see the original assignments, and the re-cleaned ones.

Hey, look over there! Week 3, Perspective

This week my assignment were to draw an air plane and a car in a two-point perspective scene. For me, this was a really challenging assignment to draw. I did have some basic knowledge of perspective from when I was younger. But I’ve always been really bad at it. And it didn’t help either that I often remake things over and over again, because I feel its not good enough (can drag out the time). But when drawing this assignment, […]

Week 2, Constructing a character

This week I had to choose one thumbnail out of my twenty, that I made last week. I had to choose one, because our assignment this week was to construct a character out of it. This, for me was really hard. It took almost the whole week to settle on one idea. But I finally did it, and I think I’ve made a good choice.
I chose the androgynous Asian child. I did this because I felt it was the most […]

Introduction and Input Manager

Introduction
Hello, my name is Linus Bjernhagen and I’m going my first year of Game Design and Programming at Uppsala University – Campus Gotland. The course I have now, Game Programming I, gives 5 points towards the project we have to do for this course if we make a blog about it with at least 5 posts.
We’re supposed to make a clone of a game from a list of 12 games. The game is to be programmed in C++ and SDL. It has […]

Start of my journey, 2D Computer Graphics, Week Uno~

This week I for the first time started to learn how to draw. Le gasp. We started by having some croquis lessons, and then got our first assignment! *Here is my reflections
This week I chose the concept “Clash of Heavens”. It seemed like a challenge since it had quite a vague character description. Only that the character should be tough, stubborn and a bit snarky. And that the character lives in a modern dark and gritty version of our time. […]

A small step for me, a giant leap for damselkind!

Här är mitt första blogginlägg…någonsin. Woop-di-doo!
