BGP – Day 4

Design and the final flame
Today I finally finished the fire, but had to do it at home, because I spent some of the time at school writing on the game design document. For the concept we are kind of stuck trying to figure out how to use our mechanics as I had mentioned before. Therefore I started to read a little bit about designing puzzle games and you can find the article here:
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/22/how-to-make-a-puzzle-game/
It’s a good read and I […]

BGP – Day 3

A matrix-sheet and more fire!
Hi again! In my last post I mentioned looking at one page designs and presented it for the group. They all seemed intrigued by the idea, but before I presented it for them, I drew a matrix-sheet of the different gods we have in our game and some of the elements. To more easily fill out the blanks when it comes to what god they belong to and how they fit together. Here is what it […]

BGP – Day 2.1

Late night study – The one page
Last night I had to finish up some laundry and with the very slow washing machine, that took forever, I ended up doing laundry until 03:00. To not waste time I watched a GDC (Game Design Conference) presentation on One Page design documents which you can see here:
http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1012356/One-Page
It’s about an hour long and is very much worth watching. To summarize the presentation it is about how to take the big design documents […]

BGP – Day 2

Target Audience
So today I’ve done several things, first the day started with me having to create something that will summarize our target audience for our presentation tomorrow. Since we don’t have the time to research for and find our specific target audience we instead choose to look at similar games that we are inspired by. Therefor it is easy to state that our game will appeal to players that like those games since they will be similar to ours.  This is what […]

The Big Game Project – Amenti – Day 1

The start of the big game project
I’m starting to write again since this is the start of our final course during the second year of game design at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland.  This is were we are tasked to create a game of our choice either by creating a new concept or by joining on someone else’s concept.  And I have joined the project called Amenti. Which is a mystical puzzle game set in an ancient Egyptian pyramid. That sums up […]

Blog Post #5

Hello,
For my last blog post I’ll be talking about the Beta presentation we held a week ago.
The presentation itself went fairly well and we got some really good feedback from the teachers. For the Beta release of our game we focused a lot on instructional feedback for the players to guide them through the game. Players getting lost or not knowing what to do was a major problem for our game during both previous playtestings, so for the last couple […]

Blog Post #4

HeyGuys (Twitch reference for anyone wondering),
For this week I’m going to write about one of the things I mentioned during the Alpha presentation that my team decided to work some more on, since we weren’t satisfied with the previous outcome. We were not happy with the map/level layout for the Alpha deadline. It was clear after the first playtesting that this issue brought up a lot of confusion and annoyance for our playtesters and we realized this was a critical […]

Turtle Defender

Sideproject – A Game of Catch
This is another small game I created in Unity, once again with the main purpose of learning and because creating is fun! I’ve created all of the artwork and design, I’ve had some mentoring assistance with the C# coding and the sounds are downloaded from Freesound.org and Soundbible. If you’d be interested in having a look at the game,  the download link is found here.

Flappy Pig

Sideproject – Flappy Bird Clone
A game created in Unity, mostly to learn and for the fun of it! Of course, a flappy bird clone is a grateful candidate for practising. If you take a closer look you may be able to find some metaphors in the game itself… All of the artwork is mine, I’ve had some mentoring assistance with the C# coding and the sounds are downloaded from Freesound.org and Soundbible. Feel free to download a copy of the finished […]

Zombie Crawler

Zombie Crawler – The Arcade Game
Over the past few years, zombies have served as gratified victims of target practice, embodiments of true horror and mindless stalking antagonists. In this game, I wanted to tell a different story. It is time we looked at things out of another perspective; Why does nobody ever ask: “How does the Zombie feel?”

Zombie Crawler is a first person zombie-crawling arcade game. As a starving zombie, your only chance of survival is grabbing a bite of that […]

Planet Suburbia

Planet Suburbia was our first real game developing project during our education at Uppsala University. The group was randomly put together, we had three student programmers and three student graphical artists. Three of these also took on roles of lead design, lead sound and producer. In my own opinion, it made for a really good learning experience and it’s healthy to learn how to cooporate with all kinds of people!

The original concept for Planet Suburbia was not our own, however we did adjust and change a […]
