Self help app work in progress!

Hello gang! I mentioned in an earlier blog post that I wanted to make an app for self help with depression and anxiety, and that I would have the opportunity to do so during the course Game Design in Practice. However, I had the issue that no one seemed to want to work with me, and I was unable to find a group to join, so all of a sudden I found myself alone.
I debated what to do for a […]

New Unnamed Concept

I, together with a small team of two artist (incl. me) and one programmer, have recently started the development of a new, yet unnamed concept for the university course Game Design in Practice. Let’s call it ”Raft”.
The Concept
Raft is a harmless survival game with its focus on gathering. The player controls the arms (attached to a body) of a genderless person, stranded, alone, on a small raft in the middle of the vast ocean.  To your aid you have a rope […]

Trip to Kustateljen!

This Tuesday our 3D class went on a field trip to Fårösund at the northern tip of the island to visit Kustateljen, which is a film studio. In our 3D class we’re going to start working with ingame cutscenes (movies) this week and the trip was meant to be a sort of introduction to that.
We were given a brief overview of how cameras work with different lenses and such, and how to light scenes to create different moods. After that […]

White boxing the level

When planing the level we figured it would be most effective doing it in 3D. With a short production time, there will not be much room for concept art. Using simple shapes a layout of the scene could be done in a short time in the Unreal engine. It is also easy to make changes and try out different designs.
The Level would be made up of three area, one forest , a village and a rocky beach. In that order […]

Year three

Hello again! It’s been a while since my last update, hasn’t it? I’m currently at the end of week two of my third year of game design at Campus Gotland! I’m pretty excited about this year because the number of people who chose to stay for the third year is bigger than it usually is, which means a lot of my friends are still here!
The two courses I’m reading right now is 3DIV and Game Design in Practice. The former focuses […]

Continuing

Saving in Unity!!
Including enemies!
Continuing where the last post ended. The version then lacked most of all was enemies, they where not included when saving. As such it is not an functioning system, but that will be mended.
There are three different enemies in the game and they have different properties that one might want to save, though there are some parts that they share such as position. This would result in a class for each type so they are easily separated […]

Saving in Unity!!
This is going to be easy, no problems at all! Right?
Surely it could be easy
Since I mentioned it in the last post I just had to continue with creating an saving function, it seemed like a very intriguing task especially since I had never done such a thing in Unity before and not really in any other kind of engine (self-made ones included). So making this would be a great step in the process of creating games, if […]

Big Game: Week 8

During the last week of the Big Game course, mostly small fixes was on the list. Stuff like;

text for the tutorial in-game,

as well as text for the menus.

Props for the final scene also had to modeled and textured, like the altar which can be seen in the print screen above. It was modeled in 3DS Max, as usual, and the textures were created in Substance Painter.

An example of the small props that I also created for this week was the lantern, […]
