Today we had our first ”official” meeting as a team working on our Space Shooter project. It’s me, and five other people. The project is to design a space shooter around two words that were randomly chosen for us. The two words we got were Dia de los Muertos and snacks. For our next project we were assigned to make a space shooter game in five weeks. More or less.
We have the restrictions that the game must fulfill which is as follows;

No Gravity. The game shall not contain elements that an additional force needs to be programmed. So jumping can’t be a feature in the game, yet walking up and down is allowed.

Last week we got a concept challenge. We had to go to a random character generator and create a concept for a game from that.
We used ”They fight crime” to generate ours.
“He’s a suicidal devious master criminal with no name. She’s a wealthy gold-digging femme fatale from aristocratic European stock.”

Two weeks ago we received our first proper writing assignment in the game analysis course. We were to hand in an essay on a game concept with the theme “Impending Doom”.

Two and a half weeks ago we had the Reverse Engineering workshop with Adam Mayes. The main take-aways from this workshop for me were:
– Deconstructing a game.
– Practicing paper prototyping.
As with the Ernest Adams-workshop, this one started out with a presentation about the assignment and the subject in general. We got a short introduction to reverse enginering that amongst other brought up that:
