3D Class- Blog Report Assignment 2 (part 1)

I’m still trying to catch up with the blog posts for the 3D course and I’m on the posts for the 3rd week. I will try and finish the other posts as soon as possible.

This week our class went to Fornsalen which is a museum in Visby. First we got a guided tour of the museum, and then every student had to choose one of the exhibition’s objects to model for the 2nd assignment of the course. I […]

Textures

The light is a bit strong. I haven’t figure out how to turn it down in yet…
I finally finished the texture for my post apocalyptic crate! I pretty much have not changed my original design at all, since my first sketch. I did remove the fallout shelter symbol on the box, since it did not really make any sense and was just a cheap way of saying “hey, this is post apocalyptic and stuff”. I kept going with the beaten-up […]

3D Class – Week 2

This is my post for the 2nd week of 3D class, featuring the three crates I did in class. I had planned to write this some weeks ago, but it has been very stressful with surprise assignments and other school work, so sadly these 3D blogposts had to wait.
Anyway, here are the descriptions of the themes and the crates that I made based on those themes:
Cartoony:
When I think of the theme cartoony, I immediately think about bright colours and clear […]

3D Computer Graphics – Blog Post Week 03 – Part 2

This week we were asked to chose a model from a museum in Visby that we were then asked to replicate in 3D using a specific theme as a reference. After a brief tour of the museum and some general background on the items that were on display there we were asked to take photos for later reference, we were also asked to get some information about the object that we ultimately chose.
I chose this knife as my model:

Week 39: Texturing and UDK

This week we’ve been working on texturing models and the procedures that prepares the model for it, as well as he importance of colour and tone. A time consuming process for the uninitiated, but I managed to pull through. While tricky to learn, it’s a process that’s usually easily mastered. Relatively.
I picked up my Urban-styled crate for various reasons. Firstly because I felt that it would provide an opportunity to see realistic, detailed surfaces applied on a 3-dimensional object while […]

Board Game Analysis: Betrayal at House on the Hill

The assignment continues! Like last time, we were tasked to play and analyse a board game. This week, we decided to play the game Betrayal at House on the Hill. It is a turn-based game for between 3 and 6 people, and can be summarized as “explore a haunted house together, until one of you becomes a traitor, than defeat the traitor”.

The game uses eight special die 6-sided die, where two of the sides […]

3D Computer Graphics – Blog Post Week 03 – Part 1

This week we were asked to get into groups and try to optimize each others crates that we had been working on lately. Through the use of 3DS Max’s xView you can locate some of the common problems that can arise when modeling in 3D. Some of the things we have learned to correct are overlapping faces and vertices and how to make sure polygons consisting of more than 4 faces are taken care of.
Since none of my original teammates was present […]
