Board Game Analysis 1# – Small World
Introduction: For the class Advanced Game Design we had an assignment to play a board game at least three times and then write an analysis for it.
This is my analysis for the board game Small World. It’s a rather long, but I felt that there were many things that needed to be explained about the game so that it would be easier for someone who hasn’t played the game to understand the analysis. (Since the rules that came with the […]

Board Game Analysis #1 – Pandemic
Pandemic from Z-man Games is a co-operative strategy game for two to four players (although due to its strategic nature of being a co-op game, you can be as many as you’d like, inc. being alone) where your goal is to save the world from four different diseases that are spreading quickly around the globe.
The game can be played by anyone from ten and up, but I would recommend someone in their older teens or young adultery due to its […]

Board Game Analyze (Carcassonne)
Introduction
A group was assigned the task to play and analyze a game. In order to analyze we had to explain of the core system, components, system and the interaction between them and how the players interpret it. This is an exercise in understanding games and how they work, in order to learn more about what can make a good system and what can be altered. As Adam Mayes says: “Steal what you like and work with it”.
One of the instructions […]

The Stripes of a Tiger
Greetings!
Never ever before have I drawn a tiger, nor have I documented my drawing procedure. But in my last drawing, I did both!
I saved some images at relevant points during my process of creating this magnificent beast. It went pretty well I would say. But I aspire to do better.
I started as I usually do, a quick sketch to get an idea of what I want to have drawn. Just too keep me focused on the subject at hand.
I then […]

Board Game Analysis – Pandemic
Me and a group of fellow students have played a board game called Pandemic and this is my analysis of it.
Pandemic is meant to be played by two to four players. The game board consists of a world map of earth with capital cities used as locations. Each location/city on the game board has a color. There are four different city colors, the same amount of colors as there are diseases in the game.
The goal of the game is to work […]

3D Crates
This week we have been modelling crates in 3D class, here is the result of Wednesday’s workshop.
Medieval
The medieval theme is characterized by organic shapes and forms, even geometric forms would have an organic feel to them due to the crude tools that would be available in the world. Using sharp clean lines and geometric forms would take away from the historical illusion. Textures used in this theme are mostly metal, wood, stone and cloth.
Skyrim is an excellent example of […]

Board game analysis: Smallworld
When we started this assignment we had an array of board games to choose from, after some brief consideration (since no group member had an extensive knowledge of board games) we decided to just pick one that looked fun, and that game became Smallworld.
Smallworld is a strategy game with small similarities to Risk. The goal of the game is to gather coins and at the end of the game (after 9 turns or so, depending on the amount of players) […]

3D I, Week 2
This week in 3D we discussed IPs and visual styles. During the workshop, we were instructed to create three models of crates, each with a different theme. The themes we had to choose from were sci-fi, urban contemporary, post-apocalyptic, medieval and cartoony.
Crate A: Cartoony
The theme I chose for my first crate was cartoony. Of the different themes we were assigned, it’s definitely the one I’m the most comfortable and familiar with.
I’d say simplification is the basic trait of cartoon […]
