Scrumdiddlyumptious

As some of you may know, I’m currently in the process of working on one of my first proper games as a group. This has so far been quite the learning experience. As this is part of this project we tasked with implementing the scrum framework into our daily routine.
The Nitty-gritty So what is scrum? Well, I can start by saying that it’s not some phrase that a certain incessantly positive, fictive, neighbor has come up with.

Sprint 5 – Scrum

All teams have been working within the scrum framework. It has been quite simple to implement thanks to Marcus’s template.
During our kick off meeting all of us worked on adding assets to the product backlog in the most organized way possible. We split the different assets into categories such as UI, Player character, Power ups and other pick ups, non interactive assets such as the background and decoration, Menu…etc. We then split them within our different minors : coding, art, […]

Scrum
Introduction
I feel the development of our game has been mostly positive for our group. Every time we make a sprint, we get together and discuss what we will be working on for the upcoming week. If there’s some downside with planning our sprints it’s just too short. A week goes by so fast and the tasks we work on would sometimes need more adjustments and iterations. The same task can be worked on the next sprint and in some cases […]

Sprint 5 – Scrum

So we have been working with scrum in our group (obviously), and it has been working out very well for us. For most in the group, it is the first time working with Scrum, however, me personally have been working with game design and Scrum before so I felt quite comfortable with Scrum and I felt like I had a good idea of what it was all about and how it worked.
Since I did game design and graphics before, I […]

Get Up, Stand Up

Comfortably Scrum
Ah, yes. Scrum. My good friend. My agile friend. I do not know what to say about you. Exercising is not really my thing. So sprinting, or even just standing up, is generally not something I enjoy. I have never watched rugby. Anyway, I do appreciate a flexible and iterative work structure. Behind the corporate jargon and ironic formal structuring for being less structured and formal is a good framework for […]

Entry 3: Sum of Scrum

Hello, and welcome to another week of blog posts! Today I have for you, dear reader—you guessed it—a blog post about Agile SCRUM work method. My name is Jesper Karbing, and I´ll be your post today.

I have some mixed feelings about Scrum thus far. It has been a big help with structuring and keeping track of your weekly work load and plan. My main concerns with Scrum are twofold:

Having it in Microsoft Excel. It just gets confusing sometimes when you […]

Game Design 2: Blogpost #3, Scrum

For this blog post I will be writing about Scrum and how it has affected Group Sirens work on the Behemoth game in Game Design 2.  Group Siren is of course the group that I, Jonathan Berggren was in during this course.
Scrum is an Agile framework for iterative development, in particular it is aimed mainly at software development. It starts with the creation of a product backlog, the products in our case were features for our game like the player […]

Scrum

Hello everyone!
In this blog post I will talk to you about mine and our group experience with the scrum and how it has affected our development.
Our team had a bit of a rocky start with the scrum work plan the first week, before we learned how to use it. Our Project Manager did an excellent job at explaining everything once we started getting the hang of it. And after the first  week everything was running smoothly.
Our Manager was in charge […]

How the boss is going to attack

In our team, we have discussed a lot about the boss. My team chose the Aetherial design document, and the core part of it was that you were supposed to hunt a huge monster (the boss) and feel like a champion. Because of this, it is quite an important part for as the designer, to design the boss in such a way that it gives you the thrill of battle, but is still winnable.

To make it a challenge, I came […]

Boss

Boss – A Design process
This week I have taken a first stab at designing the boss for our game. As I’ve mentioned in earlier posts, the boss is of very high importance to our game. Everything before you face it is simply practice, the boss itself is the main course.
So, in hopes of gaining some understanding into what makes an enjoyable boss fight for a shoot ‘em up game, I have analyzed some boss fights from different kinds of games. […]

Hi Jesper! Great Post. The post clearly explains what your guys have done drawing all the assets, except for the player, in a 45° angle. The problem with this angled view affects the movement of the boat is explained as well.
However, I do not find any reasoning behind the decision to have all the assets in a 45° angle. I will presume that the reason why, is that the assets in a top down view can be unclear and sometimes […]
