Enemy death sprite
We decided in the group that we would not have a death animation for the enemy fish, instead we would have some particle effects where the enemy would explode into a cloud of skeleton bits. So to begin with I made a lot of different skeleton parts so that we would have a few different options. I also made some different cloud sprites that we could use to make it seem like the fish exploded. These didn’t feel necessary in […]

Clam Animation
In our game Selfish, we had decided to have clams that you could pick up power ups from. The design of the clams were made by the other artist in our group. So when it was time to start animating things in the game, I set out to animate the clam.
First I got the image from Rebecka, I then duplicated it several times and started to use the warp tool on the different layers to manipulate the image and make […]

Designing enemies for Selfish
One of the tasks that I have been doing is designing the enemies for our game.
It was kind of a joint process with making the main character. I started with sketching a lot of different fishes and asked the group for what they were looking for, which sketches they liked the most and what about it that they liked. These are the sketches that were later deemed too bland for the main character, but we got a bunch of aspects […]

Background for game and main menu
This week and the end of last week, my focus was on making the background for the game. I had previously made a rough sketch with some coloring to get a feeling of how we wanted the background in the actual game to look.
I set up to start drawing, by using very broad strokes of different shades of blue and green to try and get a nice color for the water, I used the smudge brush to make the transition […]

Making of the main character
My group Shadavar decided on making the game Selfish. I have been working on creating the main character for our game, Stephen, in Photoshop. It has been a bit of a struggle, with the early concepts not being to the liking of the team. The first version was very happy and cute, similar to Flounder from “The Little Mermaid”, but turned out to be a to be too bland and not really distinguished enough. In the next version I tried to […]
