Preproduction Package: Bella

Yesterday I received a pre-production package from one of my class mates that I am to model for the 3D course. The character I will be modelling is a 12 years old girl called Bella (Isabella) who is the main character of a detective aimed at children of 8 years and up.

Concept Art I was given for “Bella”

What I was instructed to keep in mind was that Bella is a quite calm girl, […]

Character Assignment: Game World

This week we have begun creating characters in the 3D course, the first step was to come up with concept art and a turnaround for a character for which we would then create a character backstory and game world.

Concept Art that I drew for the assignment of noble son William

The game takes place in medieval England, to some extent inspired by the Sword in the Stone and the village in Beauty and the […]

Chalice Update

As well as finishing up my crates I have completed the model for my museum assignment this week. I have optimized the model and created the UV map, now I need to finish the texture set complete with diffuse, specular and normal maps. Here is a visual update of what I have done so far.

Medieval Crate

Crate as seen in UDK (back and front)

I was working on the diffuse map last week but something was just not right with it, when I started to think of and work on the other maps I came to realise that the fault I had probably made was that I was trying to do the work of the normal and specular maps because I wanted it to look complete […]

Texturing

This week we have been working on creating UV and diffuse maps in the 3D course. The theme I chose for the crate that I have been texturing was medieval; I decided to keep the style realistic and took inspiration from games such as Skyrim. I wanted the crate to look as if it was something that had been used for a while, not being brand new. Even though I wanted it to look somewhat old I still wanted […]

Super Dungeon Explorer

Super Dungeon Explorer is a board game for 2-6 players above 10 years of age. The game is built so that one or two of the players will play as the dark consul and the rest will play as heroes.

Dice:
Die rolls is the most prominent feature in this game as it determines everything that happens in the game. There are three different types of dice, blue ones, which are the weakest, red ones […]

Museum Assignment

This week we went to the Gotland Museum, after being given a tour we were asked to find an object that we wanted to model in the 3D-course and take reference photos of it.

I chose this chalice after discussing with my teacher, the reason I chose it was because I wanted to create something that would give me a challenge, while still being able to complete it. It was a bit difficult to choose as I felt that most […]

Optimizing 3D

This week we have been optimizing our crates that we created last week. We were divided into groups of three and all got to optimize a crate made by the others and one that you made yourself. There is not much I can say or anything new to show of my medieval and my urban contemporary crate as my colleagues that were tasked with optimizing them found nothing to fix.

I believe that this is because of their simple natures, […]

3D Crates

This week we have been modelling crates in 3D class, here is the result of Wednesday’s workshop.

Medieval
The medieval theme is characterized by organic shapes and forms, even geometric forms would have an organic feel to them due to the crude tools that would be available in the world. Using sharp clean lines and geometric forms would take away from the historical illusion. Textures used in this theme are mostly metal, wood, stone and cloth.

Skyrim is an excellent example of […]

3D Week 1

The fall semester has started and Tuesday we had our very first 3D lesson. We had an introduction to the course and went through the elements of art before, in groups, analysing how they were applied in a few game screenshots.

The first image we discussed in our group was from Batman. The very first thing you see when looking at the image is the bad guy standing over Batman who is lying […]

Alanna

Summer is almost over and school is about to start, so I thought I would post an update of what I am working on at the moment. It is not completely done yet, but I am starting to really like how it is turning out.

I found a really old drawing among my files that was a remake of an even older sketch and was curious to see what it would look like if would […]
