GameJam!
|
We recently had our very first Game Jam session! It was a ton of fun and quite a learning experience. We had to use Game Maker, so it was very simple sprite graphics and simple mechanics that had to be repeated throughout in order to make an exciting game. (Moving left and right, jumping etc). Most teams were mixed with first, second and third year students. Obviously it was quite difficult for us first year students to make a worthwhile contribution, since most of us lack coding and drawing experience. But that was the whole reason to why we was there… To learn and hear valuable insight from more experienced people. In the past few weeks we also received an assignment to write our very first concept design and sales pitch documents. It was, difficult to say the least. The hardest part was to keep everything short and concise without deviating to huge wall of texts, because lets face it, no one wants to read about your story or detailed characters. They want to read what makes your game unique, chance of success, what needs to be done in order realize the game and so forth. Be short and punchy, right on track. If one really wants to flesh it all out, one can always write it down on separate documents. I also found amazing read material for any game design related interests: http://www.acagamic.com/courses/infr1330-2014/introduction-and-course-syllabus/ (Scroll down to lectures and enjoy!). |
