Week 4

We’re had quality time with our 3D mentors and they came with a lot of feedback

Change environment to more Swedish woods (required research)

More vegetation

Specific vegetation for just that area

Various areas of forest

I’ve done some iteration on the trees. Going for even more low poly so I can use them in different ways like putting them into the ground or rotating them to get more variety without making several models.

I’m also thinking about removing a lot of the mountains in the background and replacing them with trees you can’t go through.

I removed the bear cave too. Instead I’m building it into the terrain mountain to make it blend more with different textures on the rocks. Before I had dark rocks, now I am matching the rocks with the mountains with a light rock texture.

I’ve been cleaning up the whole scene, removing mountains on the terrain and almost every prefab. We realized that mesh collider did not work as smooth as for an example a box collider on the trees, so that has been redone.

The second I came to school I turned on a documentary about the Swedish forest and I instantly got inspiration for how the terrain should look. This day consisted of placing trees both manually and by paint tree tool. I’ve been changing the placement of rocks, making assets of different types of grass and other vegetation’s, to make the scene look more alive. Like a real Swedish forest.

This week is mainly focused on preparing for the Alpha this Friday and I have only been iterating on the terrain trying to get it ready for the testing, it already now looks pretty sweet, much more like the Swedish forest I was talking about.

I have been filling up 1/3 of the tutorial with spruce trees, making it a spruce forest, not a mixed forest like I had before. After you walked past the spruces you arrive to the pine forest, filled with pines obviously and then an open area with the wolves and some birches. That is basically the layout for the tutorial.

The end of the week was used for model iteration. I remade the stump, the birch and the pine, cleaned up textures and normal maps, going for more rough normal maps to increase the reality feeling.
