My First Game Jam ”Primal Need – A space odyssey”

My first game jam is a contest where first, second and third years students competes in groups of six to create a game in less than eight hours.
All games are based on the same theme, this years theme was Addiction X.

I managed to get into an awesome group of people. We were three first years students and three third year students. For the first hour we basically just talked about different game ideas and talking about different addictions. In the end we decided that drugs was way to mainstream and monkeys in space really craves for bananas. So we approached this game thinking that the playable character is addicted to bananas.

Primal Need  is a single player game played on PC. The player controls the monkey Max that for some god knows why reason is in space. When flying through space Max really needs to get his daily dose of Bananas and thus have to collect bananas from different planets.

There’s a few missing features in the game thanks to the lack of time. There’s supposed to be a timer that tells the player how much time is left. At the moment you only have 1 minute and 30 seconds to collect all bananas which makes it impossible to beat this game. You were supposed to get extra time for every banana you picked up but due to lack of time we didn’t add this feature.

Even though the lack of features our game managed to win in the category
”Best Execution”. I’m really proud to be part of this awesome team and had a really great day.

If you want to play the game, you can download it here.
