This Friday we had our second Game Jam at Uni and as the first one we had many participants. The big difference from this and the first game jam was that this game jam lasted Friday-Sunday!! This resulted in two long sleepless nights 🙂 My lovely team consisting of four first year programmers and two artists:
– Team Ädelpatrasket Von Wackenhooths –
This time the theme was TWO BUTTONS. Our first thought was, we have to create a game were you use only two buttons as an input but soon we came up with the idea to actually have the player interacting with two buttons in the game. A lot of inspiration was taken from the game “Lethal League” when we came up with our game concept.
Gameplay: However our game turned out to be a 1 vs 1 fighting game were the players had to charge at eachother and try to hit one another on buttons that are randomly moving up and down on the right and left arena wall (these buttons are actually gong-gongs that will make a gong-gong sound once hit). Player Red is supposed to hit player Blue so that he lands on the blue button and vice versa and one point out of three goes to the victor.
Narrative: You are playing as Mr. Fancy Ostrich or the Giraffe Box Bob. Your goal is to defeat your opponent and gain the attention of the Justice League to get one step closer becoming their new member and fight crimes together.
The engine our programmers used was Unity. For being their first time ever coding in this engine I think they did very well!
The first evening our second artist’s tablet broke so I had to do all the graphics in the game which was quiet stressful but at the same time I learned a lot and how to handle the stress.
Major things I learned on this Game Jam:
– Handle stressful situations – Create simple animations in Photoshop (Only been working with animations in Flash earlier) – How to create Sprites for video games – Basics in 3Ds Max (because in the last night I had time over to do other stuff 🙂 )
Since the game never got completely finished (we only touched our ideas a bit but wanted so many more things in the game) we decided to meet up and continue on the game.
Sooo … My Team and I are very much looking forward to work more on this after X-mas break!
TO BE CONTINUED! 😀
