With two weeks to go till the finalization of our game it was time to get to get down to business. Never have we been so busy busting our asses off to race to the finish. With the implementation of a third enemy it meant that artwork would need to get done. Along with the artwork meant animation and more work. After our game designer came up with the third enemy it was time for me to get down to the research. Joel had decided that the third enemy would consist of a puffer fish that would shoot out projectiles in the form of spikes.

I set about drawing quite a few puffer fish concept ideas, but sadly most of them had not appealed to our game designer Joel, but eventually after describing what he had envisioned I had drawn one that was satisfactory. Having the hand drawn sketch for reference I could no proceed to draw the puffer fish in Photoshop.Puffer.jpg

I started mapping out the character as best as I could following my hand drawing along the way. Once I had completed it, it was time to add some color just as a reference. Choosing random colors to give my character some life. In the end I had a big, boxy and angry looking puffer fish.

The next task that I had to achieve was adding in the spikes. This was the most important feature of the character as this was the reason we had chosen this particular fish. We believed that the spikes would add an interesting game play element to an already complex game. Unfortunately due to a heavy workload from other classes the spikes had to be delayed and the puffer fish would remain without his sharp projectiles on his body until I or one of our other graphics students could free up the time to complete him. Once he is completed I will update this blog with his finished state.
