How we prepared for Beta presentation

Today I am going to talk about how we prepared for the Beta presentation.

Until now we had two presentations. For the readers that do not know what kind of presentations we are having, let me elaborate a bit.

During the project of making shoot em up games, there are three presentations we have to give. Those are called Alpha, Beta and Final. For the presentation, we have to show the audience how we worked on our game, what went well, what went bad and play our game.

It was Beta on March 6th. In order to prepare the presentation and the game, our team gathered up on Sunday at the library. For two hours all the members worked on the missing parts of the game. For instance, we upgraded main menu and room design. The graphic aspects were already in the game it was just that the coders had to implement those. After some polishing of the game, we started to prepare the presentation. As a project manager it was my duty to handle the presentation power points (ppt). Hence, I had everything ready for ppt except the contents. This is because I wanted all the members in the team to have same image on our presentation.

However, writing the context of the presentation did not worked out as well as I thought. Especially when it came to the topic of ‘what went well’, all the members became silent. Maybe we were to humble for ourselves. Anyhow we managed to fill out the materials and I asked everyone to look through the ppt once again to see if there is anything we have missed. Moreover, I told them to think of the questions which audience would ask us. Then we called it a day.

Unfortunately at that night I received an urgent cry out through the slack from my game designer. He said that we have forgotten to implement winning screen in the game which was one of the main required aspect for the Beta presentation. For that reason, our group had to meet at 8am the next day at the cafeteria and work on it. And at half pass 9, the Beta began with a team called Amarok. (You reading this M!?!?)

To conclude, there was a bit of tension before the presentation but overall it went well and we were happy to hear some compliments on our game.
