So, during the course we went through our grip on anatomy, traditional 2d drawing and the like. It went a bit so-so, I must say though that I was expecting it. I have not done too much 2d drawing and had not really been drawing in any real capacity until last year when we had our first 2d course. To start the list off I will say that I generally draw too short legs, this happens quite a lot if I do not think about it. I have a better grasp of upper bodies and I have learned to make the arms about the right length more or less on autopilot with some occasional hiccup concerning the placement of elbows but the legs man, the legs. Furthermore I have a problem with hands, big shock there right! They are quite hard to draw and many people have trouble with them, not just me, honest! Seriously though hands are almost impossible, I have a few sheets of botched attempts but not nearly enough yet. Feet on the other hand (pun unintentional) just take more time than they have any right doing, but generally turn out more or less presentable. I do some sketching every weekend although it is mostly rough work without much detailed muscles or complicated anatomy. I am a lot better than I was before but that isn’t saying that much as I knew almost zero a little over a year ago. I mostly try to keep what I learned during the 2d1 course in me. I have not really studied a lot of anatomy but I have had a quick run through once or twice and Fundamentals of art had a pretty good anatomy section considering and I have looked through it a few times trying to remember and done some sketches trying to learn and imitate. A book on anatomy for artist is going on to my Christmas list this year since most of them seem to be rather expensive but I think something a little bit more in depth would be quite useful especially since I rather like 3d sculpting good knowledge of anatomy is really important So, we go on to animals, I suck at animals. Though it is mostly for lack of trying and training. I should probably put more time into drawing, at least mammals to begin with since they are rather similar to humans and then try to widen my scope since having a feel for the basic anatomy of all kinds of creatures can only come in handy. Overall I do not think I am all that good at 2d drawing but the most important part to take from the 2d to 3d is probably the anatomy since you need to know how the body looks from all angles in order to make a good 3d adaptation of a human or other animal. So anatomy in probably what I should be studying the most since I am rather bad at it and it is probably the thing I would have the most use for in the future. Art Dump! |
