This week I have once more been dealing with the trouble of not having a working tablet. Earlier I thought it was the cable, but it was more complicated than that.

I have been working on a lot this week, but what I have been spending most time on, is once more the fire-bird. This time, I have been working more on the colour, and making it look like it is burning and this is how I did it:

Last time I chose orange pretty much as a place-holder, I just wanted the colour to somehow represent the element of the enemy (which in this case is fire). Once we put the bird in the game, I actually thought the colour worked in the game, which made me keep it for this week. Then I added a red that was a bit more saturated than the orange, just to make it pop even more. I chose to put this colour on the upside of the bird, since fire usually burn that way. The yellow is there to make the contrast a bit bigger, and because that is the third colour most associated with fire.

I decided that it wasn’t too necessary to be precise with where the colours ended up, and thus I could actually do this with the mouse. Since fire is ever-changing, there is no exact rules how the colours are combined. The most difficult part of this process has probably been to clean up the brush strokes since the

Since the other enemies doesn’t have colours that changes in the animation, I will probably have to go back and work on that next week, to make the enemies look more coherent. I also need to clean up the brush strokes even more before we can actually use it in the game.

I am however pretty happy with result, for now. Of course there are some things that I will improve on before adding this in the game, like the still visible brush strokes and some of the lineart in the animation, but given the fact that I managed to create most of this with only a computer mouse that isn’t the best in precision, I am pleased with the result.
