Animations, animations, animations…Pipeline!

This week in the fishbowl

This week me and the other graphical artist has been focusing on making and implementing additional animations in our fish massacre screenshake fest.

Unlike my earlier post I’ll showcase the pipeline from sketch to inside Unity!

Its pouty lips and orange color gives it a unique sillhuette and appearance from the other enemies in the game, and this is one to be wary of since the blowfish explodes in a mirrage of spikes and death(spikes later to be included in the animation) making a small bullet hell sprout from each individual blowfish. This enemy is introduced later into the game and works both for the benefit for the player since the spikes also kills other enemies(even other blowfish) but also makes a maze of death for the player to navigate through.

This was the pipeline for my blowfish:

I started off with sketching some keyframes, the movement of the eyes is suddle, but does the trick.keyframes blowfish.png

Then I added the inbetweensframes.jpg.png

And then I tested the animation as a .gif

Untitled-5.gif

Added some line art and color. Douchy or cute, you decide.

Untitled-8.gif

Exported the layers individually in photoshop. File -> Export->Layers to filesFile_000 (1).jpeg

Made a spritesheet, dragged all the layers into my texturepacker.

Finished texturesheet:

Dragged the texturesheet into the requested folder and then from the Unity folder into the scene.

File_006.jpeg

Saved the animation.

Created a prefab of the animation by dragging it from the hierarchy into the prefab folder.

Entered the blowfish prefab(ask your coder where he put it/what it’s called)

File_003.jpeg

Added the Animator component inside the inspector of the blowfish prefab.

File_002 (1).jpeg

Select the prefab of the animation in the animator component.File_001 (1).jpeg

And done! The animations really gives the game life, now you can really start to picture the finished product.

In retrospect this was a nuisance to piece together a blog about, but I hope it helps someone.

Peace
