The Week Of Concepts

This week has been the week of concepts. So the most of the work that has been happening this week is the creation of some ideas for the remaining enemies in our game, this is so that it will be easier to create the sprites for the enemies that are left for the coming weeks. I made three different enemy concepts to be exact.

The process has been quite easy to actually draw them, but it’s the creation of the different enemies that has been harder.

Since they are falling you have to give them a pose that will convey that, and that is quite the task in my opinion.

Another thing is that the game is set in a nightmare, and like I mentioned in my last post on this blog, the enemies are supposed to be tools, make the enemies not feel like people but rather embody the action, make them the weapon. So to solidify this feeling I try to make the enemies have the weapon “built into” them, and it was hard with some enemies to incorporate just that idea.

One of those enemies was an enemy called Squirt. He is using water pistols in the original concept of the game, to spin around and shoot in a spiral. So trying to find a solution to make him have the weapons be part of him was quite hard, but this is two ideas I came up with.

Making the hand the water nozzle was easy, but at first I had a hard time to come up with a idea to feed water into the nozzles and I’m still not 100% sure if these are the best solutions, both the nozzle and the water feed system needs some polishing.

I also revisited my Slingy sprite to make it a bit more refined, I changed the sling hand to make it look more like a sling since it looked like he did the time-out sign at first, so I had to revisit the sprite to solve this problem.

As usual I’ve been using Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 to create all of my work. I started drawing when I came to this education, so I have not been familiar with Photoshop before this or drawing in general, but the more work I do the more I learn how to use Photoshop to it’s full extent.
