Week 2 – Adding things in Unity!
|
Week 2 has come to an end. Since I was asked to do a quick introduction by a comment past week I figured I’d start with one this week instead! My name is Alexander Sjöberg and I am the Lead Artist on team Kraken. We are currently developing our game based on the concept Echoes. Echoes is a navigational based exploration game which takes place in a dark forest. The player takes on the role as a moth trying to navigate through the dark forest using a sonar to light up the vicinity. The previous week I talked about my creation of the main character for the game and the animations attached to that character. I mentioned that I if I had time would continue working on a rig-doll animation in Unity, but that is not the case. My focus this week has been towards implementing different assets into Unity such as obstacles and animations so that everything would be ready for our Alpha presentation. As the Lead Artist it is my job to make sure that all the different assets are in the correct format and have the correct visual style that we have aimed for. In this case we are two artists in the group and the chances of us using two different styles for the different assets is rather big. That’s why we during this entire course have worked alongside each other making sure that when the time comes to implement everything we are on the same page and the assets will look as if one single artist made them all. Luckily all this work payed off and I could easily implement the different assets into unity without making any major changes. Once in unity I made sure that all the assets were made into sprites and then made into prefabs. I even attached the correct behavior to the different obstacles just to relieve the workload on the programmers.
During the day of the presentation, me and the Lead Programmer worked side by side finalizing the main character animation once it was implemented into Unity just to make sure everything was working the way it was supposed to. All in all this week has been a rather good learning experience. Even though I didn’t get to draw that much I learned a ton about Unity and implementation of assets and animations. This knowledge will come handy if there is something that us artists want to check regarding scale and other things that might be relevant when designing upcoming assets. This way we don’t have to poke the programmers while they are working on their stuff. More information next week! #5SD064 |
